What is it?

The Nightout Kickoff was conceived as the inaugural crime prevention event for our community. The actual National Night Out is October 7 and will be the annual event designed to promote crime prevention awareness. Though not directly related, the Neighborhood Watch program will be an ongoing effort in Joshua Meadows.

The Joshua Meadows Neighborhood Watch Program is currently in its infancy. With crime on the rise, members of our community seek to assist law enforcement in the prevention of crime.  Sponsored by the National Sheriff’s Association, Neighborhood Watch programs can be traced back to the early colonial settlements when night watchmen patrolled the streets.

Modern versions of Neighborhood Watch programs count on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities at all times of the day and night. Neighborhood Watch programs work because they reduce the opportunity for crime to occur.
